The Coldplay concert in Los Angeles this weekend was a star-studded affair!

Celebrities including Reese Witherspoon turned out to see Chris Martin and his band play, but she and others had to watch from either backstage or in the audience. James Corden, however, had very different seats. The Late Late Show host surprised the audience when he appeared onstage with the British band after Martin had said they were bringing an old band member out to help with a Prince tribute song. Of course, it wasn't a former member!

Although Corden puts on a show every night of the week, even having a Tony-award winning Broadway show under his belt, the British talk show host confessed he was "a little nervous." Despite his nerves, Corden and Coldplay sounded great together while performing "Nothing Compares 2 U," an eyewitness tells E! News. Corden kicked off the song before Coldplay joined in and finished in unison, but the fun cameo didn't end there. When Corden was about to step off the stage Martin told him to wait because it was Corden's birthday Monday, so they obviously had to celebrate.

Coldplay pulled out a cake for the Into the Woods actor and sang happy birthday—with the help of the entire stadium, of course! That's one heck of a way to celebrate the start of a birthday! Martin and Corden seem to have become good friends ever since the "Fix You" crooner appeared on Corden's hit segment Carpool Karaoke.

Famous for putting on a great concert as well as chatting with the crowd, Coldplay spent some time bantering with the fans. Martin thanked everyone for making it to the concert despite of the traffic (did Corden help the band get to its own concert?), but he joked he wouldn't want to sit in two hours of traffic to see Justin Bieber even though he likes him. Quite the comedian, Martin also joked that he saw some swimmers in the corner being arrested and even told the crowd it looked like it was out of a One Direction music video because that's how "gorgeous" everyone looked.

Clearly fans come for Coldplay's music but stay for the apparent camaraderie—and surprise celebrity appearances!
