Say hello to Dr. Kanye West!
The 37-year-old rapper was on the receiving end of an honorary doctorate earlier today at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
For the commencement, Kim Kardashian's other half was dressed in a formal graduation cap and gown. After receiving his degree, Kanye took to the stage to give a speech to students and graduating artists. Many fans took to social media to share photos and videos of Kanye's speech, which included a lot of talk about his career and his work as a multifaceted artist (and lots of smiles!).
Speaking about his accomplishments, Kanye said, "Whether it's the cosign of Paul McCartney grabbing me and saying, 'It's OK, he doesn't bite white people,' or the New York Times cover or the Time Most Influential cover, and now a doctorate at the Art Institute of Chicago. When I was giving a lecture at Oxford, I brought up this school, because when I went on that mission to create in other spaces apparel, film, performance it would have been easier if I could have said I had a degree at the Art Institute of Chicago."
The night before, Kanye gave an artist talk to students and faculty. "Thank you guys so much. It's moments like this that make the fight so worth it," he said during Sunday's talk. "To know that, you know...there's people who appreciate how hard it is to be an artist in an industrialized commercial world."
While Kanye's wife and daughter North West weren't in attendance, Kim did congratulate her hubby on Instagram while currently in Brazil. "Dr. Kanye West!!!!!!! I'm so proud of you baby & I know your mom would be so proud too!!!!" she wrote Monday.
