It's back to the Shire New Zealand for Peter Jackson.

The director has posted a pic of himself and Ian McKellen (aka Gandalf) on Facebook to inform Middle-earth fans that he is currently at work on some final shots for the last two installments of his Hobbit trilogy.

"Back on set for our last Hobbit pickups," Jackson wrote. "Our last ever Tolkien pickups, in fact. It's going to be an intense few weeks, but we're looking forward to shooting some powerful scenes with our great cast."

And as Jackson and Co. do their thing, we'll continue to patiently wait for Dec. 13 to roll around. That, of course, is when The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is scheduled to hit theaters.

The final installment, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, is due to arrive Dec. 17, 2014.
