René Angélil, husband and manager of pop icon Celine Dion, has agreed to take over as director of Star Académie, a Quebec reality TV equivalent to Canadian Idol.
Angélil will coach and critique aspiring talent as they prepare and then perform on the show, and participate in one of the galas.
In previous seasons, Angélil and Dion participated as advisers for the show.
This month, the Star Académie team will travel to 12 cities in Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick to find 100 candidates for the upcoming season. That number will be pared down to 20, who will be introduced at a gala in February.
Angelil said in a media conference last week that the young people who participate in the show enjoy a springboard for their career that was not available to him when he was younger and in a musical trio called Les Baronets.
