Forget about a dance-off.

It's time for a hat-off between Justin Timberlake and Ashton Kutcher.

“It’s funny,” Timberlake says in the new issue of Fashion Rocks magazine. “I keep hearing Ashton Kutcher say how he was responsible for trucker caps. I’ve heard him make that statement before.”

But Timberlake insists he and his William Rast fashion line partner and childhood friend Trace Ayala are the real trendsetters. “Trace and I were wearing them when we were seventeen,” Mr. SexyBack says.

Timberlake is well on his way to fashion-icon status. Along with gracing the cover of Fashion Rocks, he's new face of Givenchy’s men's fragrance, Play!, and stars in William Rast’s upcoming fall ad campaign.

But he wasn’t always rockin' fedoras and tailored suits with sneakers. Timberlake remembers a time when he would spray-paint vintage Air Jordans and shave images of beehives into Ayala's hair.

“We just kind of didn’t care,” Timberlake remembers of his fashion faux pas. “We kind of still don’t.”

Timberlake is one of a gaggle of superstars performing at the Fashion Rocks concert in New York City on Sept. 5.
