Veronica Mars: Here's What I Know

First, let me say I'm well aware I'm making no friends among you readers who don't watch Veronica Mars and are sick of me blathering on about it.

But for the record, tonight, I really don't care.

'Cause tonight, not only did I hear some exclusive news about a new Rob Thomas project (see #4 below), we got what the CW presented as a "season finale," even though it's painfully clear this episode was the series finale, and there are so many questions left unanswered it might lead me to an early grave—and to permanently delete any CW series from my TiVo's season pass list. (Yes, I'm feeling that bitter...but in my defense, did you hear the CW picked up a reality show called Farmer Wants a Wife?)

In the past few days, I've received hundreds of emails from VM fans who, like me, are outraged at the show's apparent cancellation and want to know if there's any hope it will survive. Aside from my "There's no hope" posting last week, here's the depressing news I can tell you:

1. CW president Dawn Ostroff technically has until June 15 to make a final decision on whether Veronica Mars will return midseason.

2. At the moment, there are no plans to bring back the show; it is considered to be "over" within the CW walls.

3. Insiders tell me that the CW's decision makers do not want to come right out and say Veronica has been canceled because they fear it will only add fuel to the angry fan fire.

4. Insiders also tell me VM mastermind Rob Thomas is currently shooting a new project (on spec) at his house with Enrico Colantoni (Keith) and Paula Marshall playing spouses. As far as I know, Colantoni is not playing anything Mars-related, so it appears Thomas may be moving on...

I wish I had better news. I wish VM would survive. I wish you would post your ideas below on how we might work some kind of miracle and save this show, because I'm personally at a loss.
