The 24-year-old boutique owner and Keeping Up With the Kardashians star opened up to E! News anchor Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show this morning, divulging the truth about her quickie Friday jail stint, so required after she violated probation on a DUI charge.
For a start, Kardashian said she's "very happy to have all of this behind me and to have learned a very, very good lesson." She then explained that her original bust came about not because of any unchecked wild-child behavior, but because she was mourning the four-year anniversary of the loss of her father, former O.J. Simpson defender Robert Kardashian.
"Everybody deals with it differently, but I have dealt with it the hardest," Kardashian said, adding that "drinking was a way for me to just deal with it." (Listen to the entire interview.)
"We were going out a lot...trying to hide the pain. And I went out, but I went out the wrong way. We should have had drivers, and we just weren't being smart."
That covers the crime. As for the punishment, Kardashian said she was originally expected to be taken to the downtown Twin Towers correction facility, "one of the dirtiest, toughest jails in L.A.," but said that come Friday morning, "there were some complications, and I actually could not go down there. It's a blessing in disguise. That's my dad being one of my angels."
The socialite also confirmed that she was instead transferred to Lynwood come her morning surrender and immediately placed in solitary confinement for safety reasons.
"As soon as I got to Lynwood, there were three bomb threats...The warden came down to talk to me, and he was saying, 'You're the one causing all the problems here.' And I'm like, 'Ugh, I don't need any more problems.' And he's like, 'There's all these bomb threats, and we're thinking it's for you.'
"But because of all these things, it's a blessing, and I was actually released early because I was a threat to the prison."
That, and, the correctional facility would no doubt like it pointed out, because of the perpetual overcrowding of the jail system.
Still, Kardashian's brief sojourn to the pokey paid off in sheer lessons learned.
"Honestly, I would never do it again...It's just not worth it...It's so much time.
"Hopefully people will learn from my mistake. But get a cab, get a friend, get a driver. Trust me, it's a lot less expensive."
As for her first stop postrelease, the Kardashian crew, sans the traveling Kim, headed off to Kate Mantilini's in Woodland Hills, where mother Kris Jenner took her daughter's lesson to heart.
"She had some wine and a shot of Patrón. But we had a driver."
