Levi Johnston Apologizes for Nailing the Palins

Bristol Palin's baby daddy offers public mea culpa for spreading "lies" about Sarah Palin and Alaska's former first family

Well, well, well. This certainly makes those rumors that Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin are on again a bit more interesting.

After a year spent alternately trashing Sarah Palin and her clan, dodging bullets lobbed by the matriarch herself, dropping trou, talking sexy time with his abstinence-poster-girl ex and fake-courting Kathy Griffin (that's some résumé), Johnston is apparently seeking a fresh start with Alaska's former first family and has offered up a public apology to the group.

But that's not the most interesting part.

"Last year, after Bristol and I broke up, I was unhappy and a little angry," began his mea culpa to People. "Unfortunately, against my better judgment, I publicly said things about the Palins that were not completely true."

Of course, that Levi didn't bother to clarify which of his bombshells he now claims were lies could come in handy, should he and the Palins ever find themselves to once again be on the outs. Maybe Tank knows what he's doing, after all.

Quick refresher: Johnston said Sarah and Todd Palin didn't cook for their kids, made the young'uns do their own laundry, said the former governor routinely complained about holding office, referred to her son Trig as her "retarded baby," and that she even proposed an idea wherein she and Todd would adopt Johnston's son, Tripp, and keep Bristol's pregnancy a secret.

But that, apparently, is all in the past.

"I have already privately apologized to Todd and Sarah," he continued. "Since my statements were public, I owe it to the Palins to publicly apologize."

Well, the Palins saw that apology and raised him a carefully worded statement of their own (See? They're already working together!).

"Part of coparenting is creating healthy and honest relationships between the parents," Bristol told the mag. "Tripp one day needs to know the truth and needs to know that even if a mistake is made, the honorable thing to do is to own up to it."

And while the duo is now coparenting their hearts out, their road to harmony hasn't exactly been smooth.

Just last week, Levi escorted Palin-nailer Griffin around Wasilla, Alaska, for an episode of My Life on the D-List. During the hour, admittedly shot several months ago, the duo tried to track down the Palins and even turned up unannounced at their front door. (They weren't home at the time. Would you believe the luck?)

As for Bristol, she hasn't exactly been on the high road for long, either, as she referred to her baby daddy as "dirty laundry" in the current issue of Harper's Bazaar. Ah, young love.
