Tough call where the alleged curse in this family begins. Whether it's John F. Kennedy's assassination or Ted Kennedy's infamous Chappaquiddick incident, this political powerhouse of a fam has had loads of problems. As for the next generation? Michael Kennedy, son of Bobby Kennedy, had an affair with the family babysitter and went to rehab for alcoholism, only to later pass away in a ski accident. And then there's David Kennedy, another son of Bobby who passed away in Brazil in 1984 from a drug overdose of cocaine, Demerol and Mellaril. And the bad luck streak doesn't end there—Maria Shriver (niece of John, Bobby, and Ted) filed for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger after her action-hero hubby fathered a child with the family maid. Perhaps a rabbit's foot may be appropriate, no?
Uh, where do we even begin? Mackenzie Phillips has struggled with cocaine addiction for decades, even collapsing on set and being fired from her '70s show One Day at a Time. In 2008, she was arrested for cocaine and heroin after an airport screening and pled guilty to one count of felony cocaine possession. And then there's her memoir, High on Arrival, where she fesses up to first trying the powder at age 11. Oh, and she also accuses her father of injecting her with drugs and claims they had an incestuous relationship for 10 years. And in case you didn't already guess? Her father, John, struggled with addiction for years as well.
Adorable Drew may have won our hearts in E.T., but life as a child star wasn't easy for the gal. Drew struggled with a slew of addictions all at a young age: from cigarettes at age 9, to booze by 11, to marijuana at 12, and cocaine by age 13. Following a suicide attempt at 14, she successfully emancipated herself and stayed committed to sobriety. As for papa Barrymore? He dabbled in and out of jail during the 1960s for drug use, public drunkenness and spousal abuse. And to take it back one generation further? Granddaddy Barrymore suffered from major health problems due to alcohol.
Tiger blood runs in this family, no doubt. Famous father Martin Sheen once struggled with alcoholism, but has been sober since the mid '80s. And need we even explain Mr. Charlie? Following years of struggle with addiction, the dude's been arrested for drug possession and assault on then wife Brooke Mueller. Oh, and then there's that time he got fired from Two and a Half Men. Still winning?
Here's a thought: Don't say your daughter has "serious mental problems" if ya want the gal to stick around. And when Mr. Voight blabbed about daughter Angelina, Ms. Jolie handled the diss with a six-year estrangement. But Ange isn't exactly one for normalcy, either. At 14, she went through a self proclaimed "punk rock" phase and first began experimenting with knives. Angie went on to struggle with depression in her teens and early 20s, leading to drug use and cutting. Then there's that slightly odd (and fairly passionate) kiss with her bro, James Haven, at the Oscars in 2000 and that vile of blood she wore while married to Billy Bob Thornton.
And to think, it all started with Farrah Fawcett and her feathery blonde locks. But things weren't always so peachy for the now deceased darling: her son Griffin O'Neil was recently arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence (he'll head to court this week), and her other son, Redmond, has been in rehab at least four times. Papa Ryan O'Neal was also arrested for allegedly assaulting Griffin at their Malibu home, but the charges were later dropped.
Kirk Douglas may have star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but this fam hardly receives a star for sobriety. His son Erik Douglas died of a drug overdose in 2004 and his other son, actor Michael Douglas, underwent treatment for alcoholism in 1992. And it only gets worse with the next generation. Michael's son Cameron has been arrested for cocaine, disorderly conduct, methamphetamine and heroin possession. He's currently serving additional jail time for possession of drugs in prison.
Need we even explain this one? There's oft-troubled daughter Lindsay Lohan, who spent much of her youth bouncing between rehab and the courthouse, then there's ma Dina and pa Michael, both of who spend much of their time courting the media.
Party girl Paris Hilton may be the most infamous, but she's not the only troubled family member. Gal's been arrested for possession of cocaine (she plead guilty to misdemeanor drug possession) and was stopped for a DUI (she plead no contest to alcohol related reckless driving) while driving to pick up an In N Out burger. And then there's auntie Kim Richards who stars on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and spent the last month of 2011 in rehab after being treated for alcohol abuse.
Talk about a crazy band of brothers. Mr. Alec Baldwin is the oldest of the bunch, but the dude is hardly known for his maturity. Following a very public battle with ex wife Kim Basinger, who Alec believes kept him from his daughter, he left an explosive voicemail for his little girl calling her a "rude, thoughtless pig." And while you may catch brother Daniel Baldwin on the boob tube, you can also find his mug shot in the big house. He's had multiple stints in rehab and struggled for years with cocaine addiction. Then there's Stephen Baldwin, who may not dabble in drugs or crazy voicemails, but has his share of legal woes—he filed for bankruptcy in 2009, claiming millions of dollars in dept.
