SNUB: Chrissy Metz
After her first nomination last year, many considered This Is Us star Chrissy Metz to be a shoe-in for another nomination. The TV Academy had other plans.
SURPRISE: Jesus Christ Superstar Live
John Legend, Sara Bareilles and Brandon Victor Dixon were all great in Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, but the Emmys don't typically recognize live musicals. That changed today!
SURPRISE: Viola Davis
Viola Davis was nominated for an Emmy for playing her How to Get Away With Murder character...on Scandal.
SURPRISE: Maya Rudolph
This is not a bad surprise at all! Maya Rudolph picked up a nomination for her guest spot in The Good Place.
SNUB: Alison Brie
GLOW and Betty Gilpin got some love from the Emmys, but not Alison Brie, who shoulders her fair share of emotional work.
SNUB: Caitriona Balfe
Three Golden Globe nominations for Outlander star Caitriona Balfe and no Emmy noms? Rude.
SURPRISE: Aidy Bryant
Aidy Bryant, one of SNL's MVPs, got recongnized alongside castmates Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.
SURPRISE: Kenan Thompson
After years on Saturday Night Live, Kenan Thompson got his first Emmy nomination for his work on the sketch series.
SURPRISE/SNUB: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt came through with an Emmy nomination for Best Comedy Series, Tituss Burgess got one for his work in the supporting category, but what about Ellie Kemper and Jane Krakowski?
SURPRISE: Vanessa Kirby
Princess Margaret forever! The Crown star Vanessa Kirby was finally reorganized for her work in the Netflix series.
SNUB: The Good Fight
The Good Fight leaned in on the crazy political world of today—and it worked for them. The second season of the CBS All Access drama was even better than the first. It blended politics and procedural legal drama elements with ease...and to top it off, it was funny! Christine Baranski was robbed.
SURPRISE: Yvonne Strahovksi
The Handmaid's Tale is poised to clean up big and we thought Yvonne Strahovski may be left out in the cold—twist! She's nominated and rightfully so.
SURPRISE: Laurie Metcalf
While Laurie Metcalf is excellent in everything, including Roseanne, we thought the implosion of that series would sideline her from this race.
SNUB: Mandy Moore
This Is Us and several of Mandy Moore's costars got nominated, but not Moore. She did heartbreaking work in season two. This is a true snub.
SNUB: Rachel Bloom
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is consistently one of the most entertaining shows on TV and this year was no difference. Series co-creator and star Rachel Bloom reached new acting heights when her character, Rebecca Bunch, received a borderline personality disorder. Crazy Ex wasn't even nominated for original music and lyrics.
