Everyone thought Sofía Vergara was going to wear red—but they were wrong! The Modern Family surprised everyone on the red carpet in this stunning white gown featuring a metallic design on the front that accentuates her graceful curves. Her red lip added the perfect amount of pop to finish off the look.
Well, hello there, Kerry Washington! The Scandal actress looked scandalous in a sexy orange dress with a long slit up one side, offering a peek at some sequined black bottoms. We're also loving her ombre hair and natural makeup.
You can practically see your reflection in Taryn Manning's dress...or maybe she's managed to capture the strength of the sun in one outfit. It doesn lean a bit more towards the Vegas showroom scene and you'll probably need to look away after staring at it for long periods of time.
Amy Poehler lit up the red carpet in this shimmery dress that featured hundreds of rows of shiny silver sequins all over. The rest of her look seemed slightly bare however; if only the Parks and Recreation star had chosen to go with an updo and perhaps a red lip, then the look would have been perfect.
Sarah Silverman glammed things up with a black gown, jeweled waistline and mini clutch. The dress was relatively basic and simple, but the comedienne did opt for a lower neckline to spice things up.
Katherine Heigl hits the red carpet in an amped-up look that screams Old Hollywood glam. The cut and material on this gown are stunning and her hair and makeup are radiant to match, but we would have liked to see a more colorful accessory and jewelry, simply because the shade of this dress is so close to the Grey's Anatomy star's skin color that it washes her out slightly.
Zooey Deschanel opted for a Barbie pink dress that kind of reminds us of our senior prom days...or a beauty pageant...or a bridesmaid's dress. The dress is a little too boxy and boring for our liking, and while we love the color, it would be prettier in a shorter style or with the addition of some other accessories.
Yikes! It looks like Sarah Paulson's dress got caught in the midst of a red hornet infestation! The American Horror Story actress's dress looks like a tangled mess, and even though we know those aren't really insects on the outer layer of black gauze, we're still afraid to go near it.
Natasha Lyonne looks like she's about to flamenco her way down the red carpet in this fun lace number that shows off her curves. We would have loved to see the Orange Is the New Black star rock an updo or some glamorous waves, but her dress definitely speaks for itself.
Bam! Vanessa Williams stands out for several reasons. 1) She's the only one who decided to wear a color that wasn't white, red or blue, and 2) The shape and style of this dress are super sexy and elegant at the same time! We love that pleated mid-section and how the skirt tapers down to the ground. Nicely done!
Mindy Kaling's dress reminds us a lot of Julia Louis-Dreyfus' dress, probably because it's another reddish-colored halter dress. While the style isn't too extraordinary, the metallic accents on the front keep it from being overly boring. We must say though, Mindy's hair and makeup look amazing.
Sure, we've seen a lot of red tonight, but we'll allow Uzo Aduba's red gown to slide because she looks incredible. The front of the dress is relatively simple, and that ruffled back end adds additional pizzazz for understated elegance.
Wow! Camila Alves decided to get extra risqué with this floor-length cutout gown that offers nude peaks throughout. But don't get too excited, 'cause not all of that is bare skin. But hey, it can almost pass for it, so why not? PS. We love that jagged neckline, Mrs. Matthew McConaughey!
Kate Walsh went for yellow this year...lots of it. We love the shade that she chose and the shape flatters her figure perfectly, but with that long train and frilled waist, it looks a little hard to get around in. But hey, more power to you, Kate! At least you look amazing!
Julia Roberts was one of the few (if only) people who dared to go with a short dress at the Emmys! She teased us with this playful number that included lots of mini multicolored glass balls all over her dress, creating a unique texture and style. That steep curve in the front helped offset the rest of her look, and those platform peep-toes really accentuated her toned legs!
Claire Danes looks like a little girl whose mom dressed her up in her first formal gown for the Christmas holiday. That skinny belt looks really strange over the lace panels on the sides...and did we mentioned that weird wreath around her neck?
Gabourey Sidibe stepped out in this brightly-colored gown featuring pleated detailing all along the front and the sleeves. The dress is pretty basic, but the color really pops against the Precious star's beautiful skin.
We're slightly confused by Julianne Hough's dress because we can't tell what's going on, where it ends or where it begins. It looks like the Footloose star twirled around her room, forming a mini tornado fashion disaster with her dress. There's a slit here, some sort of bow situation going on in the front, and a weird layered thing on the side. Caution: Stormy weather ahead!
Finally someone who wore black! We know that black has a tendency to be overworn, but in the case of the 2014 Emmys, not enough people were giving it a chance! Lizzy Caplan looks elegant and refined in this halter style gown that features an open back and side cutouts. Perfection.
Lena Dunham looks like she got caught in a cotton candy machine at the country fair with this crazy skirt that looks like it's made out of hundreds of ruffled layers. While we love that she's experimenting with color, her blouse just doesn't go with the outfit. It looks like the Girls star grabbed the first shirt out of her closet without ironing it and figured that the skirt would do the rest of the work.
We're not completely sure how we feel about Kate McKinnon's outfit. No dout the SNL star looks stunning with her hair curled and the shape flatters her body nicely, but we keep imagining this outfit on Salma Hayek playing the role of a female ranchero in a Quentin Tarantino film based in Mexico. There's a certain cowboy Western vibe that we can't shake off.
Christina Hendricks looks like a tacky Christmas decoration in this shapeless red dress with gold lamé accents. There's too much material for one dress and with her hair down in that unarranged style, the Mad Men star just looks unprepared for the Emmys. A simple updo would have helped...but not by much.
Lucy Liu apparently got the memo about wearing boring white dresses because, well, it's pretty obvious. The Elementary star looks like she rolled around in a set of white sheets or cotton gauze, grabbed a clutch from the top shelf of her closet, and hit the red carpet.
Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting looks like the queen of Valentine's Day in this layered red and pink dup with floral adornments and ruffled layers. We're absolutely loving the elegant dress paired with the Big Bang Theory star's short and fun hairdo—she kind of reminds us of a rebellious prom queen.
