We blame Pete Townsend.

Ever since the Who songwriter penned "Hope I die before I get old," subsequent musicians have felt the need to, if not outright croak, then at least apply for early retirement from all the adulation and Grammy nominations.

The latest example came when Coldplay's Chris Martin hinted to a British paper that he might log off from his music career in a few years. "I'm 31 now, and I don't think that bands should keep going past 33," the singer said.

So musicians who claim they want to end their career early—there oughta be a word for that.
