Whether you want to believe it or not, wide-eyed kids will probably still drool over Pikachu and his Poké-pals. Older siblings and adults: Just enjoy the uninterrupted slumber this film provides to anyone over 16. The pre-movie short, Pikachu's Rescue, is basically a 22-minute commercial, as four new Pokémon do little more than repeat their names ad nauseum to (hopefully) be remembered come Christmastime.
In the main feature, hero Ash and his pals must stop a foppish trainer from capturing four Pokémon who control the Earth's climate. The key problem here--just as with the oversaturated Pokémon phenomenon itself--is excess: There are just too darn many monsters who have nothing to do but stand around onscreen. However, if you find yourself awake, keep your Poké-ears open for some sly double entendres--like female trainer Misty's problem with "Krabbies."
