What's happening? Almost too much at first. But stick with this charming exploration of life's interconnections, because there are treasures to be found. One morning in Paris, strangers on a train (Faudel and Amélie cutie Audrey Tautou) trade quick glances then go their lonely ways. But wait--these karma chameleons share the same birthday and the same horoscope (which predicts they'll meet their true love that day).
What follows is a mind-boggling interweaving of some two dozen characters and seemingly insignificant actions--including tossed sand, dropped lettuce and pooping birds--which unwittingly help draw Tautou and Faudel into fate's net. You could accuse Happenstance of being just a narrative exercise, but it plays out with such a light touch--and likable cast--that you can't help but enjoy the ride.
