Grind

What if a big studio let a filmmaker create a simple, no-frills movie with no obvious interference? It might look like this strangely unfussy and kinda dumb skateboarding comedy. With no significant stars to bog it down and no box-office expectations, this movie seems like it was left alone by the studio to scoot along on its own low-intensity ride.
It's a scruffy story about young men throwing their summer responsibilities away to follow a pro skateboarding tour around the country, hoping for their own big break. They make lots of jokes about flatulence and boobs. They run into bad luck, a hot chick who skates better than they do and several Jackasses. Then they skate as hip-hop metal bands blare from the soundtrack, waiting for the happy ending to lazily roll into view. When it does, you leave feeling glad instead of cheated, and for a summer movie, that's a pretty big accomplishment.
