Chased by a dinosaur, whisked on a wild ride through the center of the earth, caught in the path of a steaming locomotive, the viewer is thrust into the action of this terrific large-format 3-D demonstration film--arguably the most stunning release so far in this style of super-event cinema. A fuddy-duddy professor (Pankin) at the fanciful Institute of 3-D Technology, along with ditzy airborne robot M.
A.X., attempts to educate the audience about 3-D. Director Ben Stassen's CGI (computer-generated imagery) extravaganza boasts a marvelous mad-scientist set and an awesome opening title sequence. While a few too many jokes are stale in the wacky script, excerpts from Universal Studio's Terminator 2: 3-D ride, amazing CGI segments by Iwerks, old stereo photographs, '50s-era 3-D movies and the climactic virtual performance by Elvira are all spectacular on the big IMAX screen.
