28 Days Later

And you thought that dirty toilet in Trainspotting was scary? Director Danny Boyle's latest is a totally different kind of creepshow; Cillian Murphy wakes up from a head injury and finds that, well, everybody's gone. Here's the Rip van Wrinkle: He soon discovers the world is full of zombiefied people who were infected with a chemical agent called "rage" during the 28 or so days he was asleep.
What transpires has a total Dawn of the Dead feel, as Murphy hooks up with a small group of survivors and runs from the packs of zombies, who don't so much want to eat your brains as tear you limb from limb. Boyle keeps the eerie story dark with freaky quick cuts and splashes of gore. Its subplot that questions a desperate humanity's actions will keep your brain active. Don't wait another day. For good summer horror, this is your poison.
