The Heart of Me

After slumming as raccoon-eyed Goth chicks and an ape, Helena Bonham Carter returns to her roots in this classy British drama, set pre- and post-WWII. This tale of two sisters casts Carter as a free-spirited beauty, while Olivia Williams is the icy socialite sibling who shares an upscale London home with hubby Paul Bettany. But the buttoned-up Bettany becomes wildly attracted to Carter's bohemian nature, knocks her up and eventually gives up his comfortable life for her.
Misunderstandings and tragic events drive everyone further apart, and many years later, the feuding sisters make an attempt at reconciliation. A classic romantic-triangle melodrama, Heart is so lushly dressed in exquisite production design and adorned with fine performances that you can't help but want to try it on for size. And you'll find that this lovely period piece is a fine fit.
