Ever wonder what life is like for the smiley faces in your smartphone? Moviegoers may soon find out!

The Emoji Movie is an inside look into the world of Textopolis, the Emoji-filled city inside cell phones. The icons live hoping to be selected by the phone user in the messaging app.

In the upcoming film out later this month, the quirky characters live in the phone belonging to Alex, a teenage boy voiced by Jake T. Austin. All of the Emojis represent a certain expression, until Gene, voiced by TJ Miller, comes along and acts as an emotional shape shifter.

He has the ability to express every emotion, and his uniqueness throws a kink into the Textopolis world. So which characters star in this highly anticipated movie? We have your exclusive first look below.

Alex (Jake T. Austin)

Outside of Textopolis, this teenager holds the home to all the Emoji characters—his cell phone. Like the rest of us, he overthinks which Emojis to text his crush in order to win her heart.

Gene (TJ Miller)

As the root of conflict in the film, this Textopolis resident finds that he as an affinity for every emotion, while his expressive counterparts can only depict one, and he struggles to accept his quirks.

Smiler (Maya Rudolph)

The plastered grin on the Boss of Textopolis's face shouldn't be taken as a sign of goodness, because she is pure evil. Her goal is to get Gene deleted due to his over-emotive abilities.

Jailbreak (Anna Faris)

This wise and tough Emoji is an expert at programming, and she hopes for a better life outside of the Phone and in the Cloud.

Poop (Patrick Stewart)

This stinky Emoji is a little different than you'd think. His bow-tie, cologne and upper class accent result from taking his role as one of the most popular Emojis extremely seriously. Yet, he tends to be oblivious to his role as a punching bag for other characters' jokes.

Flamenca (Sofia Vergara)

This fiery Latina dance Emoji is quick to show off her flamenco moves at the end of every sentence.

Akiko Glitter (Christina Aguilera)

Home to the Just Dance app, this outrageous character is constantly in touch with the latest music and dance trends. She's also pretty much a permanent party hostess.

Hi-5 (James Corden)

This open palm Emoji was once hugely popular and respected in Textopolis, until he was out-texted by the Fist Bump Emoji. He'll ultimately try to regain his celebrity status.

Other characters include Smiler (Maya Rudolph), Hi-5 (James Corden), Jailbreak (Anna Faris), Flamenca (Sofia Vergara), Poop (Patrick Stewart) and Akiko Glitter (Christina Aguilera).

Each have their own distinct personality based on the emotion they depict and they all either try to help or hurt Gene while on his journey to self-expression.

The animated movie is sure to be a smart and funny approach to the world of texting, and the silly cast of characters may just be the cherry on top.

The Emoji Movie hits theaters everywhere on Friday, July 28.
