Not all was as it seemed in Scheana Shay and Mike Shay's marriage.

Vanderpump Rules co-stars Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz appeared on Watch What Happens Live Monday, and host Andy Cohen asked them about their castmates' split.

"It was honestly—it came out of nowhere," Tom said. "We were blindsided."

"We all thought they'd be together forever," interjected Katie, who appeared awkward at the line of questioning.

Katie and Tom, who tied the knot in August, didn't expect Scheana and Mike to split because the couple didn't seem like they were having trouble. "You never know what's going on behind closed doors," Tom added. "They seemed happy from outward appearances. It's so fresh."

Katie wrapped the conversation with one final comment: "It's for the best."

E! News confirmed Scheana filed for divorce from Mike at the end of November after experiencing marital problems. The couple released a joint statement:

"While we have made the difficult decision to move forward separately, our story will continue on through the love and mutual respect that we have cultivated throughout our 15-year friendship," the couple said in a statement to E! News. "Much of the recent speculation and reporting on our relationship has been misguided, and we have come to an amicable decision on all matters."

The statement continued, "We might have failed at our marriage, but we are committed to succeeding as friends and will continue to support each other's personal happiness and professional success."

Before filing for divorce, the couple denied rumors that their relationship was in trouble. "I am not missing. I am sober. I am Happy!!!" Mike wrote on Instagram while reading the Los Angeles Times. "Don't believe everything you read. I love my wife and will always love my wife. Whatever is going on between us will stay between us! #pumprules."

"Looking into the future!" Scheana added in a separate post. "The truth will come out this season on #PumpRules so stay tuned!"

(E! and Bravo are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
