The nightmare continues.

After months of speculation and fakeout trailers, American Horror Story finally returned for its sixth season on Wednesday night, revealing the theme (We think?!) for the reason: My Roanoke Nightmare, which was presented as a true-crime docuseries.

In the chilling trailer, which debuted after the west coast airing on Wednesday night, re-enactors Matt (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Shelby (Sarah Paulson) continue to deal with the fallout of their very bad decision to move into a farmhouse in North Carolina. Some of the nightmares? A bloodied Kathy Bates (who made a memorable appearance at the end of the premiere), Denis O'Hare holding an ax, and human sacrifice. Naturally.

"This place is mine. I protect this place. I shall stop at nothing to hold safe this colony," Bates, using a very interesting accent, threatens the couple in the promo. Anyone getting the feeling Bates' character is the ghost of one of the members of the Lost Colony, the group of settlers who mysteriously vanishes in 1590 from Roanoke?

But it looks like Matt and Shelby will be putting up a fight, with the "real" Shelby, played by Lily Rabe saying, "If it was a fight they wanted it was a fight they were going to get."

Game on, AHS fans.

American Horror Story airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
