The dust fake glitter snow has settled, the red blazers and jumpsuits have been put away—a new year is upon us on The Real Housewives of New York City. The episode picks up three weeks after the events of Ramona Singer's holiday party. You know, that holiday party that Bethenny Frankel couldn't get out of fast enough. That party where Luann de Lesseps apologized to both Bethenny and Carole Radziwill (again). That party where Carole thought a whole tray of hors d'oeuvres was for her. That party where Sonja Morgan had a meltdown over not being invited to Dorinda Medley's Berkshires disaster and as a result not being able to talk about Tipsy Girl with Bethenny.

It's a new year, same drama.

We open with Sonja learning the news that Luann is giddy over her new relationship with Tom, the same Tom who apparently slept with Sonja while he was "inseparable" with Luann. Yikes.

Meanwhile, Bethenny has assembled Dorinda, Carole, Ramona and Jules Wainstein for some margaritas and guacamole to plan a trip to Mexico to find the best tequila for her new drink. However, Carole doesn't want to go if Luann goes and Bethenny doesn't want to go if Carole doesn't go. Fast forward to later in the episode and Luann has learned about the trip and basically invites herself to Mexico as Bethenny explains why she wasn't in on the initial invite. You can't make this stuff up.

"She just banged me and then walked out," Bethenny said. Hey, Luann had to go see Tommy Tune!

In addition to her giggle fits over Tom, Luann also got some extensions while Ramona warned her of Tom's player ways. According to Ramona, he sent an ex a gold bracelet for Christmas and regularly talks to another one and says he loves her. This doesn't faze the Countess one bit.

During another separate meeting, Dorinda and Jules had dinner with their significant others. The booze was flowing and Jules was not happy with her husband Michael, noting his lateness, joking with the coat check woman about needing a hot nanny and his penchant for always being on the phone. Signs of things to come?

But by far the best and more refreshing part of the episode was Carole's chat with Bethenny about how a foster cat made her realize a very important thing about the way she lives her life and operates her relationships. Carole was fostering a kitten and grew quite attached to him, so much so that she was prepared to adopt him full time. However, after taking him to the vet for shots, she was informed he would be going to his adoptive family. She wouldn't get a chance to say goodbye.

"I know I should be happy, but I wanted to at least say goodbye to him. I didn't get to do that. I lost some very good friends in a way that was sudden and I lost a husband in a way that was kind of slow over the five years. I don't like sudden goodbyes," she said in a confessional, referring to husband Anthony Radziwill and friends John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

Carole said that hyperventilating and having a breakdown over the cat while talking to her boyfriend Adam made her realize she "can't love anything unless I know it's temporary." She went on to question with Bethenny if it was something always in her or because of her husband's passing, noting Anthony was diagnosed with cancer shortly before their wedding.

"I owe this little kitten a lot. This little kitten taught me what every relationship could not teach me, and that is you cannot live life as though it's temporary," she said, announcing that maybe Adam isn't so temporary.

You wouldn't get this kind of frank discussion between any other Housewives. This definitely put the "real" in Real Housewives of New York City.
