Is Ashley Tisdale up for a High School reunion?!
The 30-year-old actress, who played Sharpay Evans in all three High School Musical movies and the Disney Channel original movie Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure, revealed to New You magazine that, alas, she will not be returning to the cast for High School Musical 4.
"Looking back, it was such a perfect thing for its time and was so pure that I just don't know how you go from there," Tisdale told New You. "High School Musical didn't make us, we made High School Musical because of our friendship, how close we were and the magic there at the time."
Although HSM 4 will sport an all-new cast, Disney revealed the movie will feature a character named Campbell, who is Sharpay and Ryan Evans' cousin. Many fans took this familial fact to mean there might be a cameo from Tisdale or Lucas Grabeel in the upcoming film, but Tisdale's response sends a clear message that we can count her out.
Ten years after the original HSM, Tisdale has further established herself as an actress, businesswoman and producer. She recently finished filming Amateur Night and will be playing the voice of Cinderella in the upcoming film Charming.
Tisdale teamed up with BH Cosmetics for her new makeup line, Illuminate, and collaborated with Signorelli to create her own clothing line. She also runs a lifestyle blog, The Haute Mess, and has her own production company, Blondie Girl Productions, which produces hit shows Miss Adventure and Young & Hungry.
Despite all of her accomplishments, however, she said it has been a challenge to transition from her role as an actress to a serious businesswoman in the production industry.
"Anything that I've gotten...TV-wise and movie-wise, is me really fighting for it," Tisdale said. "I think that journey is what makes me so grateful for everything. If I was handed stuff all the time I don't know if I would be the person I am today."
It's no wonder, then, that one of her role models is fellow singer-actress turned fashion mogul Jessica Simpson.
"Monique Coleman actually always laughs because I loved Jessica Simpson, especially at that time [of filming HSM]," Tisdale told the mag. "Monique just never understood it, but I think I just could see that she was a really smart businesswoman and I could see that what she's done is amazing. Recently, Monique called me and said, 'You know I used to make fun of you all the time. Now I see what you're doing and now I understand it. And now I see what [Simpson] has done.'"
Tisdale says her production company is "really about women's empowerment," and many of its films feature strong female characters that she hopes will be role models for younger generations.
But don't worry, she has no plans to give up acting anytime soon. "One of my main goals is to win an Emmy for Best Actress," Tisdale told Health just last year.
The original cast of High School Musical also remains close friends and some of the core members came together in January to celebrate the film's 10-year anniversary.
"I just love that we all still love each other and love hanging out with each other and have that connection," Tisdale told ET Online. "It was a really special moment in our lives."
While Sharpay's fabulous, dramatic character will be missed in the upcoming film, we can't wait to see what's next for Tisdale as she breaks into the business world.
