Earlier today, the U.S. Attorney's office revealed that the legendary singer—who died on April 21—passed away from a drug overdose.
"The U.S. Attorney's office and DEA are joining the Carver County Sheriff's investigation," a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's office told E! News.
"The DEA and U.S. Attorney's Office are able to augment this local investigation with federal resources and expertise about prescription drug diversion. While this remains an ongoing investigation, we will have no further comment."
Given today's information, what are the singer's family's next steps?
A source tells E! News that "nothing is happening" with Prince's estate at the moment.
"The money is not going anywhere. Nothing can happen without their approval. They'll pay the bills, pay the creditors, manage the royalties, etc. They'll act in the best interest of the estate."
Our insider further explained that if no one is appointed as the beneficiary of the "Purple Rain" singer's estate, the family would "be the ones to potentially bring a wrongful death lawsuit. They have significant power."
And while the battle between the family members could certainly "get contentious" in the near future, our source explains that "among the brothers and sisters, the law says everyone will get an equal share."
