Sequel to School of Rock finds Black's character leading class on road trip on rock's roots

School is back in session.

Jack Black will reunite with director Richard Linklater to reprise his role as substitute teacher Dewey Finn in a sequel to 2005's hit comedy School of Rock, E! News has confirmed.

Mike White, who wrote the original, will pen the follow-up, School of Rock 2: America Rocks. The plot finds our headbanging hero (Black) taking a group of summer school kids cross-country to learn the history of rock 'n' roll, exploring its roots in blues, R&B, country and folk.

In other casting news:

  • Office drone Ed Helms is in final talks to costar with Bradley Cooper in Hangoveraccording to the Hollywood Reporter. The film focuses on three friends who fly to Sin City for a bachelor party and end up losing the groom two days before the wedding. Helms would play one of the groom's buddies in the first lead role of his career.
  • Whoopi Goldberg is tuning up for a summer stint in Xanadu. She'll play the evil muse Calliope in the Broadway musical comedy for six weeks beginning July 29.
  • Jon Heder (Napoleon DynamiteBlades of Glory) will executive produce and star in Loudermilk, a comedy vehicle that will be rewritten and directed by Craig Zobel. Heder plays an oddball who comes into contact with a substance that gives him superhuman powers.
  • Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy spinoff, The Cleveland Show, has added some new talent to its voice cast. Kevin Richardson, Sanaa Lathan and Nia Long have signed on to the Fox midseason animated comedy.
  • Jordana Brewster is on board as Zachary Levi's love interest on NBC's Chuck, per Entertainment Weekly. She'll play the "mythic" Jill, an old college sweetheart who broke Chuck's heart by sleeping with his best friend.
