Britney Spears Lists $9 Million Mansion: A Timeline of How Each Home Marked a New Step in Her Career

Britney Spears has moved in and out of 10 homes since hitting it big in 1999, and—Oops! She did it again!—the singer has put yet another mansion up for sale.

The Princess of Pop is selling her $9 million home in Thousand Oaks, Calif., which she's been renting since 2011, in order to move into a new estate she purchased in the same area last October.

The real estate news got us thinking about all the homes Brit Brit has lived in before, and as we did our research, there's definitely no coincidence between the buying and selling of her mansions and the different steps she's taken in her successful career.

1999: Brit Makes Her First Big Purchase in Kentwood, La.

After hitting it big with Baby One More Time,  Britney purchased this custom house for her mother on the outskirts of her hometown—a brick home they named "Serenity." She still stays here each time she visits her hometown!

2001: Britney Buys Her First Major Hollywood Estate

After the major success of her sophomore album, Oops I Did It Again, and hitting it big with a $7 million with Pepsi, the singer dropped $2.9 million on this two-parcel home in the Hollywood Hills. She later sold it to another Brit—Brittany Murphy—in 2003 for $3.8 million.

2002: Britney Becomes Bi-Coastal

The blonde beauty saw another major success with her third album, Britney, in 2001 and decided to expand her empire into New York City. She opened her first restaurant, Nyla, and purchased a NoHo penthouse that had been previously owned by Rolling Stones' Keith Richards and Russell Simmons. However, she ended up selling the place in 2004 for $4 million.

2004: Britney Settles Down With Kevin Federline in Malibu

Brit had released her fourth successful album in 2003, In the Zone, and married Kevin Federline in 2004. The couple decided to create a new home together, so Britney sold her place in the Hollywood Hills and bought a new mansion in Malibu for $13.5 million. They eventually sold the home for the same price when they divorced in 2006.

2007: Brit Gets Back to Business With a Beverly Hills Home

Brit had dropped Blackout in 2007 and was in the middle of her tour for that album, returning to the music after her divorce, when she purchased this Beverly Hills mansion for $6.8 million.

2008: Britney Finds a Home Outside the Public Eye in Calabasas, Calif.

The pop star took a bit of a break from music and the public eye in 2008, finding a hideaway home in Calabasas, Calif., to retreat from the limelight and the paparazzi for a couple years. She sold the home in 2011 for $4.49 million after putting more the $700,000 of renovations into it.

2012: Brit Settles Down With Her Sons in the Suburbs

After the highly successful release of her 2011 album, Femme Fatale, and the concurring tour as well as her $15 million contract with X Factor, Brit and her two sons moved into this sprawling mansion on a golf course in the suburban town of Thousand Oaks, Calif., She's been renting the mansion for a mere $25,000 a month since then, but as of April 5, the singer listed the 5-bedroom home for $9 million.

2015: Britney's Vegas Residency Leads to Another New Mansion

After an exceedingly lucrative residency in Las Vegas that started in 2013 and was later extended through 2016, Brit Brit decided to splurge on a $7.4 million, 20.86-acre estate in Thousand Oaks, Calif., nearby her most recent home in October 2015.
