The end of Pretty Little Liars may not be coming so soon after all

Life has been a real rollercoaster lately for Pretty Little Liars fans, but there's no need to panic just yet.

There was that big A reveal, and the five-year time jump, and of course, all the rumors about when the show will end. Nobody wants to have to say goodbye to the liars, no matter how many lies they tell, but ending the show after seven successful seasons would be nothing to scoff at.

Fortunately for all of us, boss Marlene King isn't committing to ending her ABC Family/Freeform series just yet. She is, however, intent on putting her fans at ease.

King had told Variety, "I think that this story when we're back will end next year at the at end of Season 7," but that statement didn't mean exactly what many thought it meant.

"What I said was "This Uber A story that starts on January 12 will end when season 7 ends,'" she tweeted on Tuesday. "I did not say PLL will end. Just sayin 4 real."

Uber A?!

"Technically I was supposed to say 'the new big bad' but let's get real, it's "uber A." #whatwehavebeenwaitingfor," King explained, before giving us a little advice for the holidays.

"Goodnight my loves," she continued. "Hope we cleared a few things up. Enjoy your friends and family. They r what matters most."

Everything that we've heard so far about the second half of season six is only making it harder to wait for its January return. From this new, much more lethal-seeming "Uber A" to the unbelievably successful lives of all the liars and their friends, it's like a whole new show that has potentially many more seasons of stories to tell.

That said, King is not the only person involved with the show who has made us question its longevity. When we asked the cast at this year's PaleyFest event, Lucy Hale and Ashley Benson seemed unsure, but Troian Bellisario was confident that season seven would be the last.

"It's only got a seventh season," she tells us in the video below. "That's it. We're done after this."

Either way, the end of season seven still probably wouldn't come until 2017, so we have at least another year before we even have to worry about leaving Rosewood for good.

Season 6b of Pretty Little Liars premieres Tuesday, January 12 at 8 p.m. on Freeform.
