Taylor Swift traded her microphone for a voice recorder.
The "Style" singer switched careers for a hot second recently when she decided to interview Alessia Cara after they performed together during one of T.Swift's many concert stops. The duo discussed Cara's hit song, "Here," and also talked about their work together on stage.
"You killed it. You came out and you absolutely owned it," Swift declared, "and at the end...it was emotional for me, too."
Only 19-years-old, Cara explained she has been singing since she was a little girl but knew from the beginning that she never wanted to change who she was for the sake of her career.
"If I was gonna do this one day it was going to be about the music. When I was shopping around trying to get signed I made it a point to say this is who I am," Cara explained to Swift. "I dress the way I normally dress, and I just wanted to find a label that would accept me for that."
With "Here" under her belt, Cara opened up about the inspiration for the song.
"I don't think there's ever been a hit song about a party being lame," Swift joked.
"It was a horrible party," laughed Cara, who acknowledged that her tune is based on a true story. In fact, she even gathered the original people from the party and put them in her music video!
But Swift made it clear that this up-and-coming star isn't anti-social; she just is more aware of her surroundings than most. "It's less of a loner vibe and more of a very in-touch-with-reality vibe," Swift noted.
When Swift isn't playing journalist, she can be found on double dates with boyfriend Calvin Harris or hanging out with some of her squad. Gigi Hadid posted a picture of Swift, Selena Gomez, Lily Aldridge and Cully Smoller all hanging out together. Posing on on a stairwell, the women (and one guy) look relaxed and happy to be reunited after a whirlwind couple of weeks.
"These are a few of my favorite things..," Hadid captioned the pic.
Never has hanging out on a stairwell looked so cool.
