Twilight's villainous vampire Cam Gigandet is ready to sink his teeth into his first starring role.

Days away from the hugely hyped box-office debut of the teen bloodsucking romance, Gigandet has signed on opposite Jena Malone in the indie drama Five Star Day, according to the Hollywood Reporter. He'll play a guy who loses everything and must come to terms with what's important in life. Malone will play his girlfriend.

Topping the day's other big casting moves, Dark Knight's Aaron Eckhart is suiting up for Battle, Jim Carrey is getting supersized, and Joan Cusack's hitting the psychiatrist's sofa...

Following up his gig as Harvey "Two-Face" Dent, Eckhart tries the heroic route this time out in the sci-fi flick Battle: Los Angeles, as the leader of a Marine platoon fending off an alien invasion.

Carrey will lend his pipes to narrate the upcoming IMAX film Under the Sea 3D, which purports to put viewers up close and personal with "the most mysterious and stunning creatures of the sea." The film unspools Feb. 13.

Cusack will develop and possibly star in an untitled NBC comedy set in the world of psychiatry. The actress is also on board the Lifetime original movie Acceptance, playing the mother of an overachieving high school student (Mae Whitman) who's stressed about her senior year.

Veteran Hollywood tough guy Brian Dennehy will costar with Donnie Wahlberg in TNT's drama series pilot Bunker Hill, about a cop (Wahlberg) seeking to clean up the crime and corruption plaguing Boston's famous neighborhood. Dennehy will play a former Mob boss turned flower-shop owner.
