Jake Gyllenhaal has come a long way since Bubble Boy, so it's always fun to take a look back to see when stars were just beginning to make a name for themselves!

The Oscar nominee sat down with E! News to talk about the movie that put him in a bubble for a long time, and joked that while the bubble was a hassle, it was incredibly "protective" during death-defying stunts. Even though he was definitely nervous, he told the director, "Let's go!" when it came time to almost get sucked into an engine.

Even though it looks like a pretty basic prop—a giant plastic bubble—Gyllenhaal revealed to us at the time that it was anything but basic. It often malfunctioned or caused other problems, which would then affect everybody onset.

"After a while it got on everybody's nerves," he dished.

Little did the then-20-year-old know that his career would only inflate from there LOL. Gyllenhaal went on to star in Love and Other DrugsNightcrawler and the highly anticipated Southpaw, which comes out Friday. He even received an Oscar nomination for his role in Brokeback Mountain.

Once he was let out of the bubble he couldn't be contained! Not only did his career explode, he also turned into a serious hunk.
