It's time to party—or get a makeover—like it's 1999!
The Weinstein Company and Miramax are developing a remake of She's All That! According to The Wrap, the hit teen comedy, which starred Freddie Prinze Jr., Rachael Leigh Cooke and the late Paul Walker, will be directed by Spike Lee's wife, Tonya Lewis Lee.
She's All That followed Zack (Prinze) and Dean (Walker) as they made a bet that Prinze's character, the high school all-star, could turn any student into a high school prom queen. The remake will follow a similar premise. The original cast included Kevin Pollak, Matthew Lillard, Anna Paquin, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, Usher, Lil' Kim, Gabrielle Union, Dulé Hill, Kieran Culkin, Elden Henson, Clea DuVall, Tim Matheson and Alexis Arquette.
The '90s hit was a contemporary take on My Fair Lady and Pygmalion.
After news of the remake broke, a Twitter user reached out to Prinze, writing, "You know, just Hollywood running out of ideas one more time. But what's new?"
He replied, "tough for writers with original scripts."
The Flash star Robbie Amell retweeted the remake news and tagged fiancée Italia Ricci, who stars on Chasing Life, which immediately set off alarms that he could be playing the lead. But it turns out it was just Amell saying how excited he was for the project! However, it looks like his longtime love and other friends were somehow even more amped than he! He Instagrammed a pic of the reactions he received from sharing the news on Twitter, and several people couldn't believe it.
"Not sure who's more excited.. @italiaricci @ankurbhatt or @pejvahdat," he captioned the pic.
She's All That is the second film in which Prinze has starred that is getting a remake, as Hollywood is also set to reboot I Know What You Did Last Summer. The thriller told the story of four teens who hit a man with their car. To avoid getting into trouble, the group quickly decided to dispose of the body by dumping it in the water.
Just when they thought they were in the clear, an anonymous letter appeared with the message, "I know what you did last summer." Their actions continued to haunt them in the weeks and months (and sequels) to come. Ryan Phillippe, who also starred in the horror-thriller, couldn't believe how long it had been since he made the movie after hearing his hit would be getting a reboot.
"Oh, come on! No. I think it's a good idea. I'm excited about it," he dished. "It just makes me feel old."
