St. Patrick's Day was a double celebration for the Russell-Hudson family: It was Kurt Russell's 64th birthday and his loved ones, including stepdaughter Kate Hudson, gave sweet public shout-outs to the actor on his special day.

The 35-year-old Almost Famous actress posted on her Instagram page on Tuesday a press photo of the two at a 2009 New York Yankees - Boston Red Sox baseball game, which they attended with her mother and his longtime partner Goldie Hawn, 69.

"Today in our family we not only celebrate St. Patricks Day but the birthday of our Pa!" she wrote. "Happy Birthday to the most dependable, strong, authentic, loving and fun Dad! I love you!"

"This is a man who made his family his number one priority his whole life. Never missed a school play, a soccer game, a hockey game, a dance recital and the list goes on and on," she said. "No matter what he was doing in his busy life, he always showed up. Not because he had to but because there was no other place on earth he would rather be then with his family. We felt the purity of that our whole childhood and my gratitude for his love is immeasurable. Happy Birthday Pa."

Kate's brother Oliver Hudson, 38, posted a similar message, using a photo of Russell as his iconic Escape From New York character Snake Plissken.

"Happy birthday to the greatest dad in Santa Monica...I love you more than you realize..." wrote the Nashville and Rules of Engagement actor. "Before you came into my life, I was only potential and you made me, forced me, to find my confidence, my independence and strive for the elusive fearlessness that you so matter of factly possess...I look up to you and always will..."

He also couldn't resist making this joke.

"And when I told you I had a small penis, your answer was moving...'It's okay son, there's a snake in all of us'" Oliver joked. "Happy Birthday PA!!!!!!!!!!!"

Kate and Oliver's biological father is Hawn's ex-husband and musician Bill Hudson, 65. The two divorced in 1980 when Oliver was about 3 and Kate was an infant. Hawn and Russell began dating several years later and he helped her raise her son and daughter in their homes in Los Angeles and Aspen.

Hawn and Russell welcomed their first child together, son Wyatt Russell, in 1986. Bill later married actress Cindy Williams and they had two children before divorcing in 2000.

In his 2011 memoir, 2 Versions: The Other Side of Fame and Family, Bill wrote that he had done everything he could to see Kate and Oliver when they were kids, adding,  "I don't want to make it sound like I was the ideal father because, of course, I wasn't. There were times when I was touring and I wasn't able to get to the kids, but that was part of our agreement to work things out between us."

Kate, Oliver and Hawn have not commented about his book.

"Oliver explained that his mother wanted the kids to call Kurt 'Pa' because she was creating this family, like I was Dad, but Kurt was Pa," Bill wrote. "So once again, I accepted that and just figured we could move on from there, but I sure as hell didn't like it."
