File this under no-good, very-bad news.

Hot on the heels of Fox ordering six additional episodes, Adam Pally will no longer be a series regular on The Mindy Project, a source confirms to E! News. What's that sound? It's the sound of our hearts breaking. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time.

BUT (there's always a but, right?) there is some good news: Pally will still appear in episodes throughout the spring depending on his schedule, so it's not like the show will be killing off his character, Peter Prentice, anytime soon. Come on, this isn't The Good Wife!

For TV fans in the know, Pally's exit shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, given his development deal with ABC Studios. But still: it's a major bummer for fans of laughter and happiness.

Pally first joined The Mindy Project as a recurring guest star in its second season, after the cancellation of ABC's Happy Endings (We still miss you, boo!). He was quickly promoted to series regular.

TV Line first reported the news.

Pally isn't the first actor to exit The Mindy Project over its three-season run. Stephen Tobolowksy, Amanda SettonAnna Camp and Zoe Jarman have all left the show.

The Mindy Project airs Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. on Fox.
