The One Big Reason I'm Terrified to Go See Disney's Big Hero 6

I am already so in love with Baymax, and I'm not sure my heart can handle if something bad happens to him

I am terrified to go see Big Hero 6.

Yep, I'm talking about the Disney/Marvel animated film starring a bunch of kids and a giant inflatable robot. There is nothing even remotely scary about it, except maybe the microbots which remind me of spiders and that makes me a little nauseous.

See, I've actually been really excited to see Big Hero 6 since the teaser first came out and opening weekend is finally here and yet…I do not know if I'll be able to allow myself to enter a theater, even if I am armed with a giant bag of popcorn mixed with Reese's Pieces. (Ever tried it? Get on my level).

Why am I so scared?

Because I am so in love with Baymax already, and I petrified beyond belief that he's going to die in this movie. And my heart will not be able to handle it.

I've been obsessed with Baymax since the very first moment he chased the soccer ball. He's just a big, lovable oaf and I love him so much. He also kind of reminds me of my Maine Coon cat, Glenn, the apple of my eye, who is also big, fluffy and basically a gentle giant. Whatever the reason, I love Baymax so dearly before even seeing more than three minutes of this film, and the desire to shield my heart from pain is bigger than my desire to see what I'm sure it yet another amazing Disney film.

Speaking of my cat Glenn, he's also in this movie as the "hairy baby." Seriously, they look so much alike:

I've bugged a couple of my friends in the industry who went to early screenings of Big Hero 6, demanding they tell me if Baymax lives or dies. Or gets hurt. I didn't want any other spoilers; I just needed to know if I should prepare for my precious Baymax feeling any kind of pain or distress. Well, my friends are both good at their jobs and hell-bent on annoying me because I only got one answer, represented by this Twitter conversation with my dear friend Jarett:

Is this irrational? Probably. But c'mon, everyone. It's Disney. We all know they love to rip your heart out on the regular. Especially when it comes to their animated movies. Toy Story 3? The Lion King? Wall-E? I cannot in good faith trust Disney with my emotions, because they are so good at toying with them. And here we have Baymax, a character I've loved from the beginning and I know I will only grow to love more as I watch the movie, and we all know that Disney will plan on doing something to him. Hello?! He's the adorable, lovable sidekick to the main character. You will get so attached to him and just when you are wrapped around Baymax's finger…bam! He'll either sacrifice himself or get hurt or something worse and…I don't know if my gentle soul will be able to watch that happen.

So maybe I should just not see it.

I probably will, because I've heard too many wonderful things about Big Hero 6 to miss it. But if someone would just tell me if I should bring a swaddling blanket to use on myself in the event of Baymax getting taken from me in some form or another, even if it's just for a few minutes of fake-out, that would be just great.

Am I alone in this craziness? Or does anyone else out there have irrational fears about seeing Big Hero 6, or any other movie for that matter, just due to the fact that you know a character or storyline will shatter your heart into a million pieces?

Big Hero 6aka Baymax Better Survive or I Will Boycott Disney and Marvel at Least Until Avengers: Age of Ultron, is in theaters now.
