Begin Again, Adam Levine, Keira Knightley

You may think that a big name like Adam Levine could pull in the big bucks for his first big screen role, but you'd be surprised to find out that that's not the case.

The Maroon 5 frontman recently told USA Today that he took the role of Dave in the indie flick Begin Again for—drumroll—zero, zip, nada.

"I did this movie for no money. I'm very lucky that I'm in that position," he confessed, adding that he's perfectly content with the cash he's earned for The Voice and his band's successful career.

"I want to have good experiences. I don't want to do a bunch of s--t that I hate. I want to treat [acting] completely differently because I have the very fortunate luxury of not having to think of this in terms of money."

Hmmm….Levine's admission straddled the line between honesty and slightly smug, right? Maybe it's just us.

And speaking of, the singer seems to be aware of his persona and talked about how he thinks he may fall under the douchebag label.

"I'm not arrogant," he told GQ's July 2014 issue. "I'm cocky. It's different. Cocky is playful. I'm confident. Some people don't like confidence. They resent confidence."

He added, "I'm not the easiest person to love right off the bat, you know. If I knew everyone in the world, they would love me. Every single last f--king one of them."
