The Writers' Room is going behind the scenes of The Good Wife tonight and revealing the biggest secret of them all: Why Julianna Margulies wears a wig as Alicia Florrick.
Anybody who's ever seen the Emmy-winning actress on a red carpet knows she has jet black—and curly—hair. On the series, Alicia Florrick has smooth brown locks. So why is Margulies wigging out as Alicia on her hit CBS drama The Good Wife? SundanceTV's Jim Rash did the digging and we're sharing his findings in an exclusive sneak peek.
"Well, the main reason, honestly, was because I wanted her to have a little bit of that WASPy look to her and I'm a Jew with curly hair," Margulies says on The Writers' Room.
Getting her hair straightened every morning would have added an extra two hours in the hair and makeup chair, time that she could've been spending with her family. It may also have had to do with the fact that Margulies and her curly black locks were synonymous with her ER character Carol Hathaway, and just before The Good Wife she headlined short-lived legal drama Canterbury's Law on Fox.
Margulies' wig experience is so successful that CBS execs regularly have her talk to other actors about the benefits of slapping on some hair that isn't theirs.
