Instead of caking on multiple layers of unnecessary makeup, the Maleficent starlet emphasized her alabaster skin with a subtle rose smoky eye, sheer rosy flushed cheeks and a sheer pink nude lip.
We also loved Elle's hair! Pulled up into a polished bun, her hair featured a floral headband wrapped around the bun with ribbons trailing down her back. Young ladies, take notice—this is one of those looks that can be rock anywhere from prom to a music festival.
Try the Look: After prepping your skin with primer, start by evening out your complexion with a BB cream that has lightweight, buildable coverage that will help camouflage redness, like Jane Cosmetics Be Beautiful Multi-Benefit BB Cream with SPF30.
To correctly apply BB cream (or foundation), using a foundation brush, makeup sponge or your fingertips, start by applying at the center of your face and blending outwards. Tip: Give your skin an airbrushed finish by lightly spraying a makeup sponge with mineral water or alcohol-free toner and blotting entire face.
Next, use concealer to hide any darkness under the eyes, redness and other imperfections. Prep eyelids with concealer or primer, then cover entire upper eye area with a matte ivory powder eye shadow, like NYX Cosmetics Nude Matte Eye Shadow in Kiss the Day.
Now, apply a shimmering champagne eye shadow like the one from the Sonia Kashuk Eye Shadow Quad in Shimmering Sands 16 to your lids up to your crease. Then, with a crease brush, apply a matte mid-tone red eye shadow like MAC Eye Shadow in Passionate to your creases, above your creases and in a V-shape with the outer corners of your eyes and creases. Blend like crazy!
Use a small eye brush to apply the red shadow to your lash line. Then, with a smudger or Q-tip, blend the eye shadow to soften this look. Complete the eye makeup with one coat of your favorite defining mascara.
To get Ms. Fanning's subtly flushed cheeks, with your fingertips apply a sheer cheek gel like Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Getaway Red to the apples of your cheeks. Blend in a circular motion.
Copy Elle's pretty pucker by lining and filling in your lips with a neutral lip liner. Then, using a lip brush, apply a creamy rose-colored lipstick or tinted lip balm, like Butter London Teddy Boy LIPPY Tinted Balm.
We really hope that other starlets in Hollywood can take cues from Elle—she manages to look elegant while still looking age-appropriate. Since we're a bit older than Elle (there was no Sephora when we were her age—gasp!), we may not be wearing flowers in our hair this weekend but you can bet we're going to try her rose-colored palette for a little fountain of youth action.
