"We Exist," a song from Arcade Fire's 2013 album Reflektor, is "about a gay kid talking to his dad," frontman Win Butler told Time Out London this past November.

One heartbreaking lyric of the song goes, "Daddy, it's true, I'm different from you/ But tell me why they treat me like this?" Butler explained he thinks "in dominant cultures, there's what's normal, and everything else is abnormal."

"It's one of the darker tendencies of humanity to think everyone should fit into a mould," he reasoned.

According to Billboard, at least a portion of the "We Exist" music video was shot with Garfield at Coachella, with Arcade Fire's frontman telling the crowd, "The right to marry anyone you want is a human rights video!"
