Emmy Rossum is one busy fashionista.

The Beautiful Creatures star recently hit up some of the biggest events at New York Fashion Week, including DKNY's star-studded birthday bash (where she danced alongside Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea during their celebratory performance), and major shows like Monique Lhuillier and Tory Burch.

So when we spotted the actress front row at Tory Burch, we had to get the scoop: How does she stay oh-so-stylish, even with a jam-packed schedule?

Hint: She starts every look with three basic pieces. Who knew it could be so simple?

Read on to catch Emmy's three rules for staying effortlessly chic this fall.

Here's what she shared:

1. Slip Into a Pair of Flat Boots: "I'm obsessed with flat boots," she told us. "Especially the '5050' boot by Stuart Weitzman." The best part about investing in a classic flat knee-high this season? You can rock them everywhere! Seriously. Wear with skinny black trousers, a white blouse and a tailored blazer for the office, tuck in skinny jeans with a moto jacket for the weekend or slip them on with a LBD for a girls' night out. How's that for versatility?

2. Rock a Red Bag: Make any outfit instantly pop with a fierce red bag. "Every girl needs a red purse this fall," she says. Our tip? Find a style that is large enough to store all of your daily essentials for work, but is still small enough to tote around town on the weekends. That way, you'll only need to invest in one bag this season.

3. Try Black and White Everything: While Emmy adores a red bag for fall, color is not always necessary to make a statement. "I love black and white monochromatic anything for fall," she says. The easiest black and white looks? A crisp black suit with a white button-down for work, black skinnies and a nubby white sweater for Sunday brunch and a classic black dress, accented with white accessories for date night.

Simple, stylish and totally brilliant.
