The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder as Damon and Nina Dobrev

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, who broke up in May, may say they're still friends but that doesn't mean there's no awkwardness!

The Vampire Diaries costars showed some serious tension at Comic-Con Saturday in San Diego when Ian offered a fan in the audience Dobrev's number. He was kidding. We think.

A source tells E! News Nina jokingly asked, "Is there anyone Elena hasn't made out with?" when an audience member shouted "Me!" Ian replied, "Give me your number. I'll set you up."

Maybe it was just a misfired joke, a product of TVD's cast working very late Friday night in Atlanta before  flying in to San Diego for Comic-Con.

Then again, Somerhalder's awkward comment came just after the pair had attempted to avoid one another in the press room. A source tells E! News: "Ian showed up and Nina showed up shortly after. She saw Ian was right in front of her and went away, then came back a little later so they were spaced out a bit more during press-line interviews."

Isn't there that rule about dating coworkers?!
