Eric Clapton was forced to scrap two concerts this week on his current European tour because of a bad back.

An announcement on the classic rocker's website said that shows set for Vienna on June 11 and Stuttgart on June 12 will not proceed as planned.

"Mr. Clapton has injured his back," read the statement. "All other shows will continue as scheduled. Further news on the rescheduling of these two concerts will be made at a later date."

A second statement added that Old Slowhand was feeling pretty bad about the cancellations but blamed it on "severe back pain."

"He is currently with specialists who will be able to better determine the course of treatment," read the statement.

"He was looking forward to these concerts and regrets that he is not to be able to perform for the fans. He would like to apologize for any inconveniences these cancellations may cause and would like to thank the fans for their understanding. All tickets can be returned to the box offices for refund."

Clapton is next due to perform in Oberhausen, Germany, on Friday. No word whether the aging guitar god will go ahead with that gig or the remaining dates.

The jaunt is scheduled to wrap up in Prague on June 19.
