Fall's hottest new beauty trend has given us yet another reason to love wine: the daringly dark lip colors inspired by its deep burgundy hues.

We spotted a variety of wine-stained pouts on fall runways, ranging from audacious aubergines at Proenza Schouler and Christian Siriano to barely-there berry stains (think one glass of vino versus two) at the Giles Deacon show.

The look has quickly transitioned from the runway to the red carpet, with stars like Amanda Seyfried, Rihanna and Sarah Hyland sweeping on the sultry shades.

For a bold burgundy lip like Seyfried's, follow the Les Misérables star's lead and keep eye makeup to a minimum with neutral shadow and a touch of mascara. You can also take a cue from Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who keeps her coordinating makeup simple with (what else?) a rosy cheek.

To pull off this trend, start by exfoliating the lips and hydrating them with balm. Make sure to blot the lips to ensure wine colors don't spill over lip lines. Since blotting helps creates a stay-put matte effect, you'll want to steer clear of matte foundation and instead opt for a dewy look like Jennie Garth.

Trend alert: unusual updos

You can venture into wine country with Dior Rouge Lipstick in Hypnotic Red. Purple-based lipsticks work best for those with fair skin, while berry-tinged colors flatter medium-toned gals. Those with darker complexions can try burgundies with blue undertones.

But the beauty of the wine-stained lip is that virtually any color can work, so long as the accompanying makeup is kept to a minimum. It's a versatile trend that we can raise our glasses to.

What do you think of the wine-stained lip trend? Does it read more vampire than vamp?
