Tom Cruise's attorney is speaking out following Katie Holmes' divorce filing, saying he hopes the former couple isn't headed towards a heated battle in the courtroom.
"I would hope that it's not a contentious matter," Bert Fields told the Los Angeles Times. "I know Tom is not a particularly contentious person."
The 33-year-old Jack and Jill star filed for divorce from her movie-star hubby Thursday and hired New Jersey divorce lawyer Jonathan Wolfe and New York attorney Allan E. Mayefsky while she was at it.
Wolfe reportedly has tons of experience dealing with "complex matrimonial matters" involving "leaders or the spouses of leaders" in business, entertainment and sports, according to the Times, and Mayefsky has been involved in a number of high-profile divorces, including those of model Christie Brinkley and TV anchor Joan Lunden, among others.
Holmes is currently seeking sole custody of the couple's six-year-old daughter, Suri.
"Katie's primary concern remains, as it has always been, her daughter's best interest," Wolfe said.
