R. Kelly is not a happy person right now.

The "Bump n' Grind" singer was en route to New York City this morning to make the media rounds for his new memoir and album when he took ill. Kelly returned to Chicago for medical treatment stemming from the emergency procedure he underwent last year on his vocal cords.

That doesn't sound too good. Here's what we know.

According to a statement released by Kelly's camp, the R&B superstar "is suffering from complications from surgery he had last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords."

The 45-year-old Kelly was thought to be on the mend.

Alas, the latest setback has forced him to scrap appearances on NBC's The Jimmy Fallon Show and Today as well as a book party meant to celebrate the publication of SoulaCoaster, a memoir chronicling the three-time Grammy winner's life story.

No word on Kelly's current condition, whether he'll be required to have another emergency operation, or how long he'll be sidelined.

The Chicago native's latest album, Write Me Back, a follow up to 2010's Love Letter, hit stores on Tuesday.
