Jennifer Hudson Set to Guest Star on Smash! Who Is She Playing?

Hudson won an Oscar for her portrayal of Effie White in 2006's Dream Girls

Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty) better watch out, because a Dreamgirl is coming to Broadway!

Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson is set to guest star on Smash's upcoming second season, NBC announced in a press release. Yes, perfect casting!

So who is the Dreamgirls star playing? And how long is she sticking around? Find out...

Hudson will play Veronica Moore, a Tony Award-winning Broadway star (natch!), whose arrival will impact the lives of the show's dueling Marilyns, Karen and Ivy!

Hudson will first appear in the season-two premiere (Smash returns to NBC's schedule at midseason) and will stick around for a "multi-episode arc." 

"We're thrilled to have Jennifer Hudson coming to Smash," Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, says in a statement. "This series is a showcase for some of the best musical talent in the business and that's a fitting description for Jennifer Hudson. Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it."

Executive producer Steven Spielberg adds, "First Dreamgirls, now Smash. I have no doubt Jennifer will continue to deliver even more inspiration to the audience responsible for giving us a second season on NBC. It's wonderful to be reunited with her at DreamWorks Television and NBC."

Hudson won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Effie White in 2006's Dreamgirls. If that's not enough for ya, Hudson is also a Grammy winner!
