Anthony and Joe Russo, the sibling filmmakers best known for executive producing and directing NBC's cult comedy as well as ABC's Happy Endings, are in final talks to take the reins on Marvel's Captain America 2.

With Steve Rogers stuck in the future present, perhaps he could play catch-up at Greendale Community College?

Per the Hollywood Reporter, the Russos were chosen over George Nolfi, who wrote The Bourne Ultimatum and made his directorial debut on The Adjustment Bureau. The brothers' feature credits include 2002's Welcome to Collinwood and 2006's You, Me and Dupree, not exactly high-flying action adventure, though the former flick does center around criminals. Director F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job) was also said to be in the running.

While Collinwood bombed at the box office, You, Me and Dupree, starring Owen Wilson, Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson, was a certifiable hit, grossing $130 million globally.

The Russos would follow in the footsteps of Joe Johnston, who shepherded the first Captain America film, which grossed $368 million worldwide.

If the deal goes through, it would continue Marvel's tradition of tapping unconventional helmers to translate their superhero stories to the big screen. Hot off his stint in The Avengers, Chris Evans will be back to don the mask and shield for Captain America 2, which is slated to hit theaters on April 14, 2014.
