As any fan of Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction knows, there's quite a few things that make the 1994 flick so iconic. From the memorable dialogue to the way the various storylines unfold nonchronologically to seeing John Travolta recapture his movie star status after slumming it in stinkers like Shout and Chains of Gold.
And who will ever forget Samuel L. Jackson's Bible-reciting gangster Jules Winnfield? More specifically, Jules Winnfield's hair!
But, according to the actor, it wasn't originally supposed to look that way.
"Quentin was going for a blaxploitation, big Afro look," Jackson says in this exclusive peek at a behind-the-scenes feature on the film's upcoming Blu-ray release on Tuesday. "He sent a P.A. to a wig store and she was supposed to get an Afro wig and she came back with the Jheri curl wig."
Needless to say, Tarantino wasn't exactly thrilled at first and demanded it be returned.
"I was, like, 'No, wait,' says Jackson, who recalls telling the director that the wig actually reflected the times. "You know, N.W.A., Ice Cube, all those guys had Jheri curls. That was the look of the gangs and all those guys who were over there bangin...So I put it on and we shined it up a bit and we were like, OK, this is how he is."
