As you know by now, Eddie Murphy has been chosen to host the 84th Annual Academy Awards next year, and like any good friend, Oscar emcee veteran Steve Martin took to his website to offer the actor some helpful tips while he prepares for the big gig.

Like, "Start slimming down now. You looked kinda paunchy in Norbit."

Alrighty, what else?

You might remember that Martin was joined with co-host Alec Baldwin on stage, which proves to be another point made to Murphy.

"Whatever you do, don't have a co-host. They're a big pain and they just end up breaking your SNL hosting record."

Seeing how no other names have been slated for the job next year, we don't see that being a problem.

The funnyman goes on to say how people think it's a "disgrace" that neither he nor Murphy have actually won an Oscar themselves, but at least they're the only two that could get away with smuggling one in their pants.

Oh, and remember to try and "have a good time while 12,000 livebloggers rip you to shreds."

Lastly, the It's Complicated star wishes his friend luck.

"Eddie, since you and I are old friends, and I sincerely thought you deserved an Oscar nomination for Bowfinger, the movie we did together that stands alone in comedy history, from which we got no credit or acknowledgement except large paychecks and drivers and any type of food we wanted delivered to us every day in our really nice trailers," he writes, "I wish you all th best on your Oscar hosting gig."
