Paul McCartney and fiancée Nancy Shevell have formally given notice with London's Marylebone Register Office of their intention to get married, paving the way for the 51-year-old New York businesswoman-heiress to become the iconic musician's third wife.
As it happens, per the requisite notice—known as a banns—the duo have given every indication that they'll tie the knot at the Old Marylebone Town Hall, the very same location that he wed his first wife, Linda McCartney, in 1969, and a location not far from the famed Abbey Road Studios.
So when's the big day?
Well, while rumors have been swirling all week that wedding bells will be ringing this weekend (the third time for McCartney and second for Shevell), that will not be the case—the couple has only just posted their wedding notice, and are now required to wait a minimum of 16 days before they can walk down the aisle, meaning the earlier they can wed is Sept. 30.
New speculation has begun to surface over a possible October ceremony, though the couple technically has one year from the time they post their notice to get married, meaning they could drag it out all the way to Sept. 14, 2012, if they wanted.
Though we have the feeling they don't.
Slightly eyebrow-raising is the fact that per the notice, groom-to-be "James Paul McCartney" lists his profession as "business executive," while his multimillionaire bride-to-be—incidentally, a second cousin of Barbara Walters—is listed simply as "executive."
The 69-year-old former Beatle and Shevell—or should we say, the future Lady McCartney?—met with the superintendent registrar earlier this week at the vaunted venue which is already steeped in rock. In addition to McCartney's first wedding, the location is also the site where Ringo Starr tied the knot, as well as former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher.
