Neil Patrick Harris is feeling smurfy, folks.

The How I Met Your Mother star has confirmed he will essay the lead in Sony's Smurfs: The Movie, a live-action/CGI-animated flick based on the classic 'toon series. Harris will be part of the "live-action" half of the equation. Shooting starts next month, during his HIMYM hiatus, on the first of a planned trilogy of movies.

Given his Broadway chops, we're hoping he joins the little blue beings for a rousing "Tra la la la la la" theme song.

And lest anyone think Doogie is slumming it with Brainy, Papa, Smurfette and the rest of the mushroom-dwelling set, Harris took to his Twitter page to defend trumpet his role.

"I'll do my smurfiest to represent well," the 36-year-old thesp tweeted, before responding to a a question: "Why? Smurfs are rad."
